The story

Gokak Falls is on the Ghataprabha river in Belagavi district, Karnataka, about 6.5 kilometres from the town of Gokak. After winding a long way across the plateau, the river tips over a sandstone cliff and falls 52 metres into a gorge cut through rugged valley country.

The fall is horseshoe-shaped, and when the river is in flood the water spreads across a crest 177 metres wide. A suspension bridge near the falls is a draw in its own right for people visiting Gokak. The nearest railway stations include Gokak Road and Ghataprabha, with Belagavi and Sangli the closest cities.
