Ghosalegad Fort lies 8 kilometres south of Roha on the Roha–Bhalgaon–Murud road in Raigad district. It runs along a narrow strip about 20 metres wide on a small hill with a fortified spur, and it kept watch over enemies and the trade route from the Maval country to the ports. Who built it is unknown. The Adil Shahis of Bijapur held it in the 16th century, Shivaji took it in 1648, and Siddi troops from Janjira surrounded it at the time of Afzal Khan's attempt on Shivaji, leaving once they learned that Shivaji had killed Afzal Khan. Siddis, Angres and Marathas held it in turn until Colonel Prother captured it in 1818.
The long wall around the machi is in good condition. Caves and rock-cut cisterns surround the upper fort, which also has an escape gate, two Sharabh figures near the main gate and a cannon on the west side. Buses run from Roha to Ghosale, and the path from the temple reaches the gate in about 15 minutes.
