The story

Chunchanakatte Falls lies on the Kaveri close to Chunchanakatte village in Saligrama taluk, Mysuru district, about 56 km from Mysuru, 14 km from KR Nagar and 7 km from Saligrama. The river splits into two cascades and rejoins, dropping around 20 metres across a front some 300 to 400 feet wide. Legend says Rama stayed here during his exile as the guest of a tribal couple, Chuncha and Chunchi, and that Lakshmana shot an arrow into the rock so Sita could bathe; the falls are also called Sithamaduvu. Water in three shades is said to show when the river runs high. The spot has appeared in many Kannada films.

Beside the falls stands an old Kodandarama temple where, unusually, Sita stands on Rama's right, said to be a boon granted to a devoted sage. Although the falls roar outside, it is said that their sound cannot be heard in the sanctum. There are two Hanuman shrines, one at the entrance and one near the river.
