The story

Christ Church stands beside the Grand Trunk Road in Bardhaman and is the oldest church in what was once the undivided Bardhaman district. The Church Missionary Society of Bengal founded it in 1816. Captain Charles Stuart, an East India Company officer known as 'Hindoo Stuart', arranged for a royal family to pay Rs 12.50 a year towards its upkeep.

The church is built of red brick in a typically British style. The West Bengal Heritage Commission has declared the building a heritage site.
