Chapra Christ Church, usually just called Chapra Church, stands in Chapra in West Bengal's Nadia district and is among the oldest churches in the district. In the 19th century Chapra was the hub of missionary work for the Meherpur subdivision of undivided Bengal, and the Church of England's Church Missionary Society began work here in the 1830s. Its congregation built the church in 1840, and it opened in 1841. In 1850 the church and the society started a boys' school, now the government-run Hat Chapra King Edward High School, and since 1956 the church has come under the Church of North India, in its Barrackpore diocese.
Since 1914 the church has organised Chapra's Christmas fair, a four-day event that draws around 20,000 people each year and mixes Christian and Indian traditions. New Christian kirtans are written and sung for each fair alongside customary prayers, and there are football matches, stalls selling crafts and food, stick play and exhibitions of crafts and animals.
