The story

The Capela da Sagrada Família, or Chapel of the Holy Family, serves Roman Catholics at Pandavaddo on Chorão in Goa. Its story begins in 1769, when a provision of 1 September allowed building to start on a plot given by John Pereira, with the funds coming from Fr Honorio Vincente Pereira. He became its first chaplain in 1771, ran its affairs, and in time passed charge to the villagers.

The building has been renewed more than once. A rebuilding was authorised in 1876, and a second reconstruction was blessed on 3 May 1918 by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese. Today four altars honour the Holy Family, at the main altar, along with Our Lady of Fatima, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sacred Heart of Mary. The chapel has a resident chaplain, and Mass is said here every day.
