The Church and Convent of St. Francis of Assisi in Old Goa was raised by Portuguese Franciscan friars, starting as a small chapel that was later rebuilt as a full church. It forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Old Goa and is now in the care of the Archaeological Survey of India, so no services are held here.
The interior, described as Baroque, has Corinthian columns, carved decoration, statues of saints, frescoes and paintings of scenes from the saint's life. The church was shut in 1853 because the government could no longer meet the cost of its upkeep, and the archaeology department reopened it to the public in 1964.
