This museum occupies Nisarga, the bungalow of Chandrakant Mandare on 7th Lane, Rajarampuri, in Kolhapur. Mandare paid for setting it up, at an estimated 15 to 20 lakh rupees, and then handed the gallery to the archaeology department of the Maharashtra government, which now manages it.
The collection covers the different sides of his career: stills from the films he appeared in, paintings, sketches and sculptures. Among the paintings are views of the Ajanta caves and of Ganpatipule. The gallery also hosts award and scholarship ceremonies that are part of the cultural life of the city.
