Chandragiri, also called Chikka Betta, is the smaller of the two hills at Shravanabelagola, the other being Vindhyagiri. It rises about 200 feet above the ground at the north-west entrance of the town, and the path to the top crosses a broad sheet of granite scattered with boulders. In Jain tradition the hill is tied to Bhadrabahu and his disciple, the Mauryan emperor Chandragupta, said to have come here around 300 BC, and the hill is named after Chandragupta.
Of the 106 memorials found at Shravanabelagola, 92 are on this hill, many to monks, nuns and lay people of the 7th and 8th centuries. Among its many basadis are the Chavundaraya, Chandragupta, Parshvanatha and Shantinatha temples, and there are also the Bhadrabahu Cave, Marasimha's Manastambha and the Mahanavami and Gangaraja mantapas. A soapstone figure of Bharata, Bahubali's elder brother, damaged below the thighs, resembles the Bahubali on Vindhyagiri.
