The story

This iron bridge across the Tawang Chu, known as Chakzam (Tibetan for iron bridge), is credited to the Buddhist adept Thang Tong Gyalpo and dated to 1430, which makes it about 600 years old. It is reached by steep steps down from the road, among high mountains and fluttering prayer flags.

A stupa stands at each end, and the first one carries the year of construction. Just two iron chains hold up the whole span, with woven wooden panels laid over them as a walkway. A safety net was added underneath in modern times to make the crossing safer.
