01 — The story

The story

Bum La Pass lies at about 4,572 m (15,000 ft) on the border between India and China, roughly 37 km from Tawang town and close to the Line of Actual Control. Snow covers its bare, rocky slopes for most of the year, and the weather is often harsh.

The pass was an important site in the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Today it is one of the agreed Border Personnel Meeting points, where the Indian Army and China's People's Liberation Army hold talks aimed at keeping the peace, and where official visits take place.
