The story

This Roman Catholic chapel on Chorão in Goa is dedicated to Our Lady of Health, in Portuguese Nossa Senhora da Saúde. The Comunidade of Chorão paid for its first building in 1705, and tradition holds it to be the oldest monument on the island.

A rebuilding in 1940, led by the architect Jose Maria Tito Fernandes, left the old facade and its towers untouched, and the chapel was blessed on 24 April 1942. Inside are three altars: the main one to the patroness and side altars to St. Joseph and St. Sebastian, along with the Stations of the Cross. A grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes, paid for by Benedito Quadros and blessed on 27 April 1948, stands in the compound.
