The story

The Brahma Temple stands on the north-eastern side of Niali village in Cuttack district, Odisha, close to the Madhava Temple. It is dedicated to Brahma, the creator god, and some local Brahmins hold that Brahma himself performed an Ashwamedha yajna here. The Prachi, a tributary of the Mahanadi, flows near the shrine.

The present temple was rebuilt in the 12th century, and its main vimana is in the pidha deula style. The central icon is older: a four-faced Brahma seated on a lotus with a rosary and a kamandalu, assigned to the Shailodbhava dynasty of the 7th century AD. Two images of Vishnu from the 12th century are also kept here.
