Bibi Ka Maqbara is a Mughal mausoleum in the city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly Aurangabad. Built in the second half of the 17th century for Rabia-ud-Daurani (Dilras Banu Begum), wife of Aurangzeb and mother of Prince Azam Shah, it was modelled on the Taj Mahal and is often called the Taj of the Deccan. It is smaller and plainer than its Agra model, a choice usually put down to Aurangzeb's thrift and the costs of his long wars.
The design is credited to the architect Ata-Ullah. White marble covers the main tomb, and much of the rest is finished in fine stucco, plaster worked into motifs that have lasted remarkably well. Inside, the grave is surrounded by carving and calligraphy. The tomb sits in a formal, symmetrical garden with fountains, a popular place to stroll and picnic. Nearby sights include the Panchakki water mill and the Paithan Gate market.
