The story

Basuki Nath Mahadev Mandir, also called Baba Basuki Nath Mahadev Mandir, is a Shiva temple in Basuki Bihari North, within the village of Basuki Bihari in Bihar's Madhubani district. It was built by the Chaudhary family, Maithil Brahmins devoted to Shiva, and counts among the oldest temples of the area. Its exact founding date has not been established, though the temple is believed to be over 150 years old. A very old pipal tree grows to its north.

Its devotees are drawn from nearby villages and towns. Opening hours are 6 am to 8 pm daily, with aarti at 7 pm. Mahashivratri is its major festival; Shravan, Navratri and Diwali are also marked, and Ashtajam Puja is held from time to time. On Mondays in Sawan, large numbers arrive to perform jalabhisheka on the Shivalinga. State Highway 75 between Darbhanga and Madhwapur serves the temple, which lies two kilometres from the Indo-Nepal border at Madhwapur.
