01 — The story

The story

Balaram Palace stands on the bank of the Balaram River in Chitrasani village, Banaskantha district, Gujarat. Sir Tale Muhammad Khan, the 29th Nawab of Palanpur State, had it built between 1922 and 1936, and used it as his hunting retreat.

The palace mixes neo-classical and baroque styles and is spread over 13 acres of grounds. It has since been converted into a hotel, so the former retreat of the Palanpur nawabs now takes in paying guests.
