The story

Avis Island is a small, uninhabited island near Mayabunder, about 20 minutes by boat from Mayabunder harbour. It has a compact beach, clear water used for swimming and snorkelling, and coconut plantations covering much of the land. Visits need special permission from the forest department.

The island was once earmarked for a hotel, but legal complications stopped the project. It is now held by national authorities, who have set it aside for coconut cultivation, and its palm groves are the first thing seen on the approach by boat.
