The story

Arunachalesvarar Temple is a Shiva temple at Ammapettai in Papanasam taluk, about 21 km east of Thanjavur. The god is Arunachalesvarar and the goddess Dharmasamvarthani. The main entrance is on the east, though devotees prefer to come in by the south gate. The temple was consecrated on 15 September 2005.

The complex has a prakara and separate vimanas over the shrines of the god and goddess. The mahamandapa holds the bali peetham and Nandi, with a Nataraja sabha, the goddess's shrine and the Navagrahas to the left. Beside the sanctum are shrines to Somaskanda and Vikramakali, and around the prakara are shrines to deities including Muruga, Gajalakshmi, Bhairava, Sanisvara, the Kasilingam and the Ramalingam.
