Apharwat Peak is a 4,390-metre summit at Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy snowfall keeps it white for much of the year, and the Line of Control is only a few kilometres away. The top is reached on the second phase of the Gulmarg cable car, and whether it runs depends on the weather.
The gondola, described as one of the largest and highest in Asia, is ringed by pine forest and snowy Himalayan peaks, and it lifts skiers and snowboarders to between 3,900 and 4,100 metres on the mountain. Gulmarg's ski terrain is arranged by height: beginners' slopes start at about 7,000 feet, the Phase 1 runs lie near 10,000 feet, a chairlift climbs to 11,500 feet, and Phase 2, at around 14,000 feet, is the highest run. The closest airport is at Srinagar.
