The story

Antur Fort stands near Nagapur village in Kannad taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district and is protected by the Maharashtra State Archaeology Department. It was built in the mid-15th century by a Maratha chief, after whom it was named. It later passed to Muslim rulers. During the 1500s and 1600s the Nizam Shahi kings of Ahmadnagar held it, and several of them are named in inscriptions inside the fort.

The hill is roughly square and about a mile round. On three sides a natural cliff drops about 700 feet, while the south side was cut back artificially to make it equally steep. Two lines of walls with bastions at intervals run round the brow of the hill, a short distance apart, and the entrance was once closed by strong teak gates.
