The story

Anandeswaram Sree Mahadeva Kshethram, among the oldest temples of Pandanad village, lies in Chengannur taluk of Alappuzha district, between Chengannur and Mannar. The Shiva temple first stood beside the Pampa, until a shift in the river's course destroyed it, and the deity was then moved to a site close by, where it is worshipped today.

Shrines around the main sanctum honour Ganapathy, Maha Vishnu, Sasthavu, Parvati in the form of Bhuvaneshwary, Yakshiamma, Brahmarakshas, Nagaraja and Nagayakshi. Maha Shivaratri in Kumbham is the chief festival. Before it, in the festival season, comes Parayeduppu, when Mahadeva is taken to homes across Pandanad, and the temple also holds seven-day Sapthaha and nine-day Navaha recitals.
