The story

Yazhmoorinathar Temple stands at Dharmapuram, close to Karaikal, the enclave that belongs to the Union Territory of Puducherry. Shiva is worshipped here as Yazh Moori Nathar, and his consort is the goddess Thenamirthavalli.

The temple is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the Shiva shrines celebrated in the early medieval Tevaram poems. The Tamil Saivite Nayanar Tirugnanasambandar sang of the deity here, and his verse closes with the name of Dharmapuram itself.
