The story

The Wayanad Heritage Museum, also called the Ambalavayal Heritage Museum, is at Ambalavayal, 12 km south of Sultan Bathery in Wayanad district. Run by the District Tourism Promotion Council, it holds one of Kerala's largest collections of historical remains, some dating back to the second century, and tells the story of the region's history, culture and heritage.

Its displays are split into four sections, the Veerasmruthi, Gothrasmruthi, Devasmruthi and Jeevanasmruthi, with objects ranging in date from Neolithic times up to the 1600s. Exhibits include objects from everyday tribal life, decorated memorial stones that once marked the graves of heroes, and terracotta figures.
