The story

Wan Dam stands on the Wan river at Wari village in Telhara taluka, Akola district, Maharashtra, and is counted among the state's largest irrigation projects. Its water goes mainly to farmland in western Vidarbha, and nearby towns and villages, including Akola, Telhara and Shegaon, draw on it for drinking. Hydroelectricity is a further purpose.

The dam rises 67.65 metres above its lowest foundation and is 500 metres long. Around it are a garden and an old Hanuman temple, which give visitors something to see beyond the dam itself.
