The story

Uchiravaneswarar Temple is a Hindu temple at Tiruvila Nagar in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Shiva is the presiding deity, worshipped here as Uchira Vaneswarar, and his consort goes by the name Veyuru Tholi Ammai. The shrine is also listed under the name Thurai Kattum Vallalar.

It belongs to the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the Shiva temples honoured in the Tevaram, the body of early medieval Tamil hymns composed by the Saivite saints known as the Nayanars. Its place in that list comes from the poet-saint Tirugnanasambandar, who sang of the deity worshipped here.
