The Teru Malleshvara Temple stands in Hiriyur, a town near Chitradurga on the Vedavati's right bank. It was built around 1466 under the Vijayanagara Empire and is protected by the state division of the ASI.
The Dravidian-style temple has a tall gopura over its entrance gate, and the ceiling of its entrance hall is painted with murals of scenes from the Shiva Purana and the Ramayana. Each year a week-long jatra, the Teru Malleshvara fair, begins on the full moon of Magha, in January or February.
