The story

Tamdil is a natural lake in Saitual district, around 85 km from Aizawl, ringed by rugged hills and thick forest. Its name means 'Lake of Mustard' in Mizo, and the site has since been developed for tourism. The still water and wooded banks support a range of aquatic plants and animals, and the area is used for ecotourism and environmental study.

Local folklore says the lake came into being through a huge mustard plant, which accounts for its name and the special place it holds for nearby communities. Visitors come for the quiet setting, the scenery and the wildlife around its shores.
