The Sun Temple at Madkhera, also spelt Markhera, is a state protected monument in Tikamgarh district, built during the rule of the Pratihara dynasty. The village name is taken to mean village of the temple, which hints that it may have been named after this shrine.
Facing east from a raised plinth, the temple has a porch, an ante-chamber and a sanctum. Niches around it show the Dashavatara, the ten incarnations of Vishnu, and the doorjamb of the ante-chamber carries figures of the river goddesses Ganga and Yamuna. Inside the sanctum, Surya stands on a lotus pedestal.
