The story

The Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple stands in the Sripuram spiritual park at Thirumalaikodi, at the foot of low green hills near Vellore. It was built by the Sri Narayani Peedam, a Vellore charitable trust led by Sri Sakthi Amma, and was consecrated on 24 August 2007. It is dedicated to Lakshmi as Sri Lakshmi Narayani, and people of all faiths may visit.

The tower over the sanctum and the front hall are covered in gold. Craftsmen beat gold bars into foil by hand and laid nine or ten layers of it over etched copper plates, with every motif drawn from the Vedas. The temple sits at the centre of a 100-acre site, reached by a star-shaped path, based on the Sri Chakra, over 1.8 kilometres long, lined with spiritual messages. The trust also runs a hospital nearby.
