The story

Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple is the main sight of Shabanur village near Davangere, and Hanuman, the village deity, presides here. The temple's origins are tied to the history of the village about 800 years ago, when its image is said to have been installed by Sri Vyasaraja Swami.

In 2000 the old temple was replaced by a new one in the Dravidian style, built with strong support from villagers and people of Davangere, and inaugurated on 11 March 2000 by Dr. Shivamurthy Shivacharya Mahaswamiji of the Taralabalu Jagadguru Brihanmath, Sirigere. The main idol of Hanuman in the sanctum stands about 6 feet tall. Worshippers from Davangere come too, especially on Saturdays, and a three-day car festival (rathotsava) begins on the tenth day after Mahashivaratri.
