The story

Someshwar Mahadev Temple is an old rock-cut Shiva shrine in the Someshwar valley near Kausani. It was built by Raja Som Chand, and its name joins the king's name with Maheshwar, a title of Shiva. The temple stands where the Kosi and Sai rivers meet, in an area whose residents have worshipped Shiva for generations.

The building itself is plain and rustic, with bells, incense and idols inside, and flowering plants grow around it. The grounds also hold a wishing well. A festival fair at the temple draws large numbers of devotees and brings local crafts and food to the site. Anasakti Ashram, the Sumitra Nandan Pant Museum and Lakshmi Ashram are close by.
