01 — The story

The story

Sita Kund is a sacred pool on the bank of the Phalgu river in Gaya, across from the Vishnupad Temple. Pilgrims have come here for generations because of its links to Sita, wife of Rama, in Hindu tradition.

One story says Sita offered Pind Daan here for her father-in-law, King Dashrath. Another holds that she bathed in the pool to purify herself while travelling into exile with Rama and Lakshmana. A small temple beside the kund marks these legends and draws worshippers to the site.
