Sarahan is a village on the route into Kinnaur and onward to Spiti, and it once served as the summer capital of the Bushahr rulers. Its main landmark is the Bhimakali Temple, about 800 years old, dedicated to the goddess Bhimakali, a form of Durga and the patron deity of the old Bushahr state. It is counted among the 51 Shakti peethas, tied to the legend that part of Sati's ear fell here, and another legend links the site to the demon king Banasura and his fight with Lord Krishna.
The temple combines Himachali and Indo-Tibetan styles, with carved woodwork showing mythical figures. A newer temple was built in 1927 beside the older one, which is said to have tilted in the 1905 earthquake and righted itself in a later tremor.
