Sankara Narayanasamy Temple stands at Sankarankovil in Tamil Nadu and is dedicated to Shiva. The Pandya king Ukkira Pandiyan built it in the 10th century and named the town Sankara Narayanar Kovil, and it prospered under the Tenkasi Pandyas. The presiding deity is Sri Sankara Linga Swamy, with his consort Gomathi Amman.
Around the Amman shrine in the prakaram is a snake pit, the Vanmikam, whose sand is believed to cure all diseases. The temple car festival falls in Chithirai, and the Aadithapasu Festival in Ashadha involves Sankara Lingam and Narayanasamy, along with the ritual of Gomathi Amman posing on a single foot. The temple opens every day, 5.30 am to 12.30 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm.
