Sadaqat Ashram, whose name means truthfulness, is a 20-acre campus beside the Ganga in Patna, founded in 1921 by Mahatma Gandhi. The land was donated by Khairun Miya, a friend of Maulana Mazharul Haque, the Gandhi ally who helped set it up. It began with students who had quit the Bihar School of Engineering; Haque led them to an orchard where simple buildings were raised, and the Bihar Vidyapith, a national university opened by Gandhi, took shape there.
Many freedom fighters stayed at the ashram, Jayaprakash Narayan among those tied to it, and Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, spent his last years here after retiring in 1962. The Rajendra Smriti Sangrahalaya on the grounds displays his belongings along with paintings, and the Maulana Mazharul Haque library also stands within the campus.
