The story

The S.P. Nautiyal Museum is part of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology in Dehradun. Its centrepiece is a large relief model of the Himalayas, the youngest mountain range on Earth, showing the scale and structure of the range.

Rock samples, geological maps and scientific charts on display trace how the mountains formed. A model of an extinct giraffe made from recycled materials is another exhibit. Video presentations and guided tours explain the science, and the institute attracts scientists from many countries.
