The story

Arulmigu Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal Temple is dedicated to Venkateshvara, a form of Vishnu, in the village of Thirupparkadal in Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. The village, called Karapuram in ancient times, has two Shiva and two Vishnu temples among its fields, and the temple is one of the 108 Abhimana Kshethrams of the Vaishnava tradition. Local tradition says the sage Pundarika came to see Ranganatha but found only a lingam; Vishnu, disguised as an old devotee, led him back, and on that Ekadashi the sage saw Vishnu standing on the lingam. The temple is held to show that Hari and Hara are one.

In the sanctum the deity stands on the avudaiyar of a Shiva lingam in abhaya mudra, with carvings of Krishnadevarayar, Rani Mangammal and others in prayer; the Vijayanagara emperor once renovated the temple. The rajagopuram is now dilapidated. The Pundareega Pushkarani tank lies beside it, there are shrines to Alamelumangai Thayar, Anjaneyar and several Alvars, and many devotees come on Vaikuntha Ekadashi.
