Pathar Ki Masjid, the Stone Mosque, stands on the bank of the Ganga in Patna and is regarded as the city's oldest mosque. It was built by Parwez Shah, son of the Mughal emperor Jahangir, while he was governor of Bihar, and takes its name from being made wholly of stone.
The mosque sits on a raised platform under a central dome, with four small minarets at its corners and two taller ones at the entrance. Quranic verses and decorative patterns are carved into the walls. Though small, it fills with worshippers on festivals such as Eid, when it is lit up.
