The story

Padri Ki Haveli is a church in Patna tied to the Capuchin order, with roots in the reign of Jahangir, when Father Simon Figueredi was called from Kolkata to set up a place of prayer. A church was raised in 1713, but it and the priests' house were wrecked in 1763 during fighting between the British and the forces of Mir Qasim.

Capuchin Father Joseph of Rivetti rebuilt both between 1772 and 1779 to a design by the Venetian architect Teretto, with lime-bound walls and a yellow facade that mixes European and Indian styles. In 1782 Bahadur Shah, son of the Nepalese king Prithvi Narayan, gave the church a large bell of Ashtadhatu. Mother Teresa trained in nursing here in 1948, and a fair is held on New Year's Day.
