The story

Neendoor Subrahmanya Swami Temple is an ancient temple to Murugan at Neendoor in Kottayam district, Kerala. Myth says the Pandavas and the sage Vyasa worshipped here. Murugan is worshipped in his furious form as Devasenapathi, commander of the divine army, just after his victory over the demon Tharakasura, with his vel pointing downwards; he faces east. Mahaganapathi, Dakshinamoorthi, Thooninmel Bhagavathi, Sastha, Durga and Nagaraja are among the subsidiary deities, and Tuesday is the god's special day.

Many devotees come to pray for success in new ventures. The temple performs a very old ritual, the Ottanarangamala Samarppanam, said to be found at no other Subrahmanya temple. The six-day main festival in April or May includes a grand arattu on Medashasti day, and Thaipooyam is also celebrated.
