01 — The story

The story

The Naval Aviation Museum at Dabolim traces the growth of naval flying in India and is described as the only museum of its type in Asia. Thirteen aircraft are on show, from early warplanes to later helicopters, among them the Breguet Alizé, Sea Harrier FRS.51, Fairey Firefly, Hawker Sea Hawk, Kamov Ka-25, Lockheed Super Constellation, Short Sealand and Westland Sea King.

Indoor galleries hold uniforms, naval equipment and accounts of major battles, including Operation Vijay during the liberation of Goa. The Suraksha room shows gear used on important missions, a multimedia room has a jet cockpit simulator, and a memorial room lists on a granite stone the naval pilots lost between 1958 and 1997.
