The story

Also called Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, this Buddhist monastery stands in the city of Leh, in the Leh district of Ladakh in northern India, close to the Tsemo Castle. Its founder was King Tashi Namgyal of Ladakh, whose reign ran from 1555 to 1575.

The monastery's main image is a golden figure of Maitreya Buddha that rises three storeys high. Alongside this statue, the monastery keeps a collection of ancient manuscripts and old frescoes.
