The story

Naggar is a village about 20 km from Manali, reached by a road that follows the Beas. Its lanes are lined with stone houses that have carved wooden balconies. Above them stands Naggar Castle, around 500 years old and built by the Kathkuni method of alternating stone and timber layers. It now runs as a heritage hotel, and its complex includes the Jagatipatt Temple, made of deodar slabs.

The Gauri Shankar Temple, a Shiva shrine, has stone carving from the 12th century, while the Tripura Sundari Temple is built wholly of deodar wood. Each May a fair is held when Tripura Devi is carried in a palanquin from Naggar to Malana. The Dagpo Shedrup Ling Monastery, opened by the Dalai Lama, lies a short drive away.
