The story

The Museum of Goa, often shortened to MOG, is a contemporary art museum opened in 2015 by the artist Dr Subodh Kerkar. He set it up because Goa had few cultural venues, and almost none given over to contemporary art, with the aim of making art open to a wide public.

The building began as Kerkar's own studio and was reworked into a gallery space with the architect Dean D'Cruz. Exhibitions change regularly and explore different identities and viewpoints, often drawing on Goa's history. Alongside the shows, the museum runs education programmes, artist archives, research work and community events.
