The story

The Martyrs' Memorial in Patna honours seven young freedom fighters who were killed while trying to hoist the Indian national flag on top of the Assembly building. A life-size sculpture shows the seven with arms stretched forward, set against green landscaping, and their names are inscribed on a plaque.

Governor Jairam Das Daulatram laid the foundation stone on 15 August 1947, the day India became independent. The grounds are landscaped for quiet reflection, and a museum on the site displays objects and papers from the freedom struggle.
