The story

Mangalapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple at Tiruchopuram in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped here under the name Mangalapureeswarar, and his consort as Thyagavalliammai.

The temple is counted among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the Shiva shrines celebrated in the Tevaram, the early medieval hymns of the Tamil Saivite Nayanars. Its place on that list rests on the verses of the poet-saint Sambandar, who sang in praise of the shrine.
