The story

Manali Gompa, whose formal name is Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Manali. Tibetan refugees who settled in the town built it during the 1960s, and it serves both as a place of worship and as a record of that community.

Its most striking feature is a bright yellow, tiered roof in the pagoda style, set above white walls, with colourful decorative bands along the edges. The walls carry painted murals of the Buddha's life, Buddhist teachings and celestial beings, in the tradition of Tibetan Buddhist art.
