01 — The story

The story

Kuthar Fort stands at around 1,300 metres in Solan district, about 33.5 km from Solan town and close to Kasauli. It is linked with the Gurkha kings who once ruled the area and was the home of the royal family. Its large grounds take in gardens, freshwater springs and old temples, and the view reaches the Shimla peaks, the fort at Subathu and the wider Himalaya.

The building follows Rajput lines, with rows of columns, carved pillars and arches, and its rooms hold wood carving and paintings. Today it is kept as a heritage property, and one section operates as a resort.
