The story

Kulathupuzha Forest Museum in Kollam district is the first forest museum in Kerala and also its largest. Run by the Kerala Forest Department through the Thiruvananthapuram Forest Development Agency, it occupies 3.3 acres beside the Kulathupuzha river, a tributary of the Kallada, with a patch of forest close by. Approved in 2017 and built under an eco-tourism scheme, it opened to the public in August 2023.

The five exhibition halls use sound and lighting to recreate the feel of a walk through the forest. Displays include models of different forest types, animal sculptures, samples of timber and other forest produce, and material on the tribal heritage of Kerala, along with a virtual zoo built with artificial intelligence and virtual reality. The complex also has a children's playground, a food court, an eco shop and a guest house. It is closed on Mondays.
