Kuanria Dam lies on the edge of the Daspalla area in Nayagarh district, about 132 km from Bhubaneswar. The 1.5-kilometre dam stores water for irrigating rabi crops in the surrounding farmland, and its reservoir sits among low blue hills. Local folklore holds that spirits and deities guard the land around it.
The reservoir draws families in the evenings and visitors at sunrise and sunset. Paddle boats and rowboats are available for hire, the grassy banks are used for picnics, and anglers fish for several species in the water. The nearby forests and wetlands hold herons, egrets and kingfishers among other birds.
